…We went to pick up the car seat and base we won on eBay this afternoon. It was a bloody good price at £65, though we were a little disappointed as the listing stated the base was isofix compatible and turns out it’s not. No biggie, it will attach using the seatbelt instead. We decided to install it in the car even though we don’t have a baby yet, then we can cheekily park in the mother and child spaces when we go shopping!

Naughty Mrs Nobody
Last week, being the terribly impulsive and impatient buyer that she is, Mrs Nobody bought a buggy off eBay. She’s not actually pregnant yet but its a very nice buggy and, well, it was a bargain!
It’s an iCandy Apple with the carrycot and everything.

Sadly the Henry Hoover, the washing-up bowl and attractive (if slightly grubby) blue plant pot were not included. I do wish people would more accurately describe what they’re selling in the listing….
According to superstition, it’s very bad luck to buy kit like this even in early pregnancy, let alone when you’re just trying to conceive. So we’re really hoping we haven’t jinxed things before we’ve even started. We can’t even hide the thing in the loft as it’s pretty bulky I really don’t fancy trying to stuff it up there whilst precariously balancing on the knackered stepladder I bought 15+ years ago. So it’s been unceremoniously hidden behind the rocking chair in the dining room where it still manages to catch the eye every time I walk past. Poor, lonely buggy….
Can you see where this is going? Well our shiny (used) buggy is technically a travel system, but it didn’t come with the car seat. Mrs Nobody has found the carseat AND the matching isofix base on eBay and bidding starts at just 99p…

As we’ve mentioned before, we are intending to move at some point in the near future after which we’re intending to go forth and multiply.
The thing is, that people keep asking up why wait to start trying for a baby? They tell us that it can take months, years even of trying before hitting the jackpot. The odds are that even if we start now we’ll be long since moved and settled in before Mrs Nobody even gets pregnant let alone gives birth. We’re hesitant because if things don’t go to plan we’ll end up having a baby in this tiny little two-bedroomed terraced house in the centre of a large town, close to the local red-light district, the football ground and the putrid green canal. Not ideal.
However, as they say, it will in all probability take months of trying before we have success so we’ve decided we are going to start trying as soon as.
We want to do this right so first, to create optimum circumstances and before any hanky-panky commences Mrs Nobody will be taking folic acid suppliments for a while and I’ll be on the zinc tablets and loose trousers. We’ll both lay off the caffeine and alcohol (not that either of us are drinkers anyway) and we’ll steer clear of anything that could cause damage to any potential pregnancy. Mrs Nobody’s steroid cream that she uses for her eczema for example. Or drinks that contain aspartame.
In addition to all of that, Mrs Nobody has been to see the Doctor for a smear and to check that she’s clear of infection and immune to reubella. Can’t be too careful!
